Share Our Strength’s Dine Out For No Kid Hungry is a turnkey cause marketing program that's easy for independently owned restaurants and single-unit franchisees to execute and bring employees and customers together around a cause that touches every community: Making sure every child in America has the food they need to thrive.

In 2011, more than 5,500 restaurants raised more than $2.5 million dollars to support No Kid Hungry®, Share Our Strength's national campaign to end childhood hunger in America by 2015. Hundreds of independent operators and single-unit franchisees took part, rallying owners, staff and customers to become part of a local and national solution to childhood hunger. Materials and resources available online made the week-long event fun, easy and successful.

Here's how a few restaurateurs rallied their staffs, raised funds and spread the word about the 2011 Dine Out For No Kid Hungry:


Baker's Restaurant, Elkton, Md.: Wendy and Robert Matthews are third-generation owners of this Cecil County landmark. The family restaurant is normally closed on Tuesdays, but they decided to open for business on Tuesday, September 22 and donate 100% of the day's proceeds to Share Our Strength. Read more »


Benchmarc Restaurants, New York City: Not only did chef-proprietor Marc Murphy serve as the official spokesperson for the 2011 Dine Out For No Kid Hungry, appear in TV ads for Dine Out For No Kid Hungry with fellow judges from Food Network's show "Chopped", and encourage consumers to dine out at participating restaurants September 18-24 during a day of national television and radio interviews, he made sure all his restaurants participated in the program with a couple whimsical menu promotions. Martino's Cuban Restaurant, Somerville, N.J.: When proprietor Ronaldo Linares heard about Dine Out For No Kid Hungry through Food Network's show "Chopped", where he was a contestant, he wasted no time in making his plans. Linares struggled with hunger as a child and despaired at the thought of kids in America going without food. Read more »
